Wow, really love your site, though I am sorry to hear of the pain of your de conversion. I likewise grew up in a fairly religious environment, though not nearly as conservative as yours.

I left the faith many years back, not so much an atheist as fairly indifferent. When I went through a divorce my family, most now involved in a very fundamentalist church, kept pressure on me to "return to God" for solace. I did so with a relish even joining a meg church and getting involved in the single adult class where I met my second wife.

Unfortunately, as hard as I tried to program myself to "live by faith" I just couldn't swallow the illogical and unreasonable strict adherence to the contradictory ancient text that is the Bible. My reason and intellect just couldn't make the leaps of logic required anymore, and I slowly became an atheist.

This has been tough and led to my second wife divorcing me. She said she wanted a Christian, that is what she married and when I left the faith she considers that I had "died" to her. This despite the fact I told her I would go to church with her and go through the motions, out of respect to her beliefs. However, in the narrow mindset of the conservative Christian she can't respect my beliefs. Her view is I have succumbed to Satan, who has destroyed me and our marriage (never mind it was her who demanded a divorce).

Glad I found your site through another link. Looking forward to reading your posts.
