Atroschus Spelling

I am, for the most part, pretty generous about some people’s lack of a gift for spelling. I may notice it, and I might even snicker a little, but I don’t get annoyed by it.
Usually.
Of course, to every grammatical rule, there is an exception, and I am no different. There are a few spelling errors that I see everyday that drive me absolutely crazy.
Lose vs. loose: To LOSE something is to not be able to find it. To LOOSE something is to make it bigger or less tight.
Your vs. You’re: I confess, I am guilty of occasionally making a typo on this, but usually I notice it as soon as I am finished writing the word. However, some people just don’t know the difference. YOUR shows possession. YOU’RE is a contraction for “you are.”
Why are spelling and grammar rules important? Try reading some Olde Inglisch, and you will see.
That being said, my spelling and vocabulary have gotten horrible since starting in my science classes. My mind is much too busy trying to wrap itself around chemistry and calculus to worry about spelling. I used to get quite irritated when people mixed up “its” and “it’s” or “their,” “there,” and “they’re,” but I catch myself doing it occasionally. “Its” and “it’s” especially. Just today, I noticed I misspelled “questioning” a few times, and yesterday, I spelled “expectant” wrong as well. What happened to the girl who won spelling bees and nearly became an English major? I don’t know!
I am hoping that blogging on a regular basis will restore some of my lost vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and creativity. So far, I’ve had limited success.

I guess this explains why a lot of engineers can’t read n’ write good!
