A Date with Ken Ham
Wednesday, February 25th, 2009
When I was in the fifth grade, Ken Ham came to town. I went to a conservative private school, and we went to see his children’s seminar for a field trip. (One of my classmates was not allowed to go. I didn’t understand it at the time, but I do now. His father was a biology professor at a nearby school. It all makes sense now!)
He gave one line that was supposed to really defeat the evolutionists. Are you ready for it? Here is the biggest, most awesomest line Ken Ham came up with:
“Were you there?”
Really, that’s the kicker? I did not understand at the time, and even asked my mother about it. “Creationists weren’t there, either,” I pointed out.
“No, but it’s about knowing what the evidence means,” she answered.
So I guess I’ll be throwing out all of my history books. And science books–after all, I wasn’t there for any of the experiments (except one which wasn’t even close to famous enough for a book), so how do I know that they are telling the truth? I am going to save a lot of money on health insurance and education! I guess that means we have to toss out religion, too–nobody alive today was there during Jesus’ time or for the creation story, either. Ah, fundamentalists make it too easy to defeat. The only reason they are still fighting is because what is lacked in critical thinking skills is made up for in dogma.

How about how they use the platypus as evidence of creation? Cause nothing that crazy mixed-up could’ve been the result of random evolution…….hahahaha

I remember the platypus part of the lecture! I remember the whole experience being quite entertaining.
Actually, I am starting to wonder if this isn’t the time that my little brother started having nightmares about the “duckbill” outside his window. . . he was there, but he was too little to remember it. . .or maybe it was my other brother? I dunno!

actually, during that conference, I remember Ken Ham saying that the dinosaurs used to live on the ark, but they reduced in size due to food shortage and such. I thought about this about two-three weeks ago, and thought, that’s evolution! But when I went to his site, I found a different story. I don’t know if they changed it or if I am just remembering wrong. Really, both scenarios are quite plausible.

Lol. I remember seeing Ken Ham as a kid as well. Quite a guy. We actually were quite enamored with his point of view. They had a question / answer session at the end and my “big question” was about how we know that animals don’t go to heaven. It made sense to me that animals would not go to heaven (why would Jesus die for them) but my other Christian friends disagreed. Ken Ham and Buddy Davis gave me some quote from Ecclesiastes and I was more confused after the answer than before.
If only I had the inquisitiveness to question the entire charade
For some reason I just trusted them so much because they were speaking the “truth”, and why question that?
