Good Enough

In life, one frequently finds that their best is simply not good enough. You work as hard as you can, but still make mistakes at your job. You study hard, but still make a B. You try your best to be a good parent, spouse, and child, but still manage to fail at those roles, too.
You aim for perfection and frequently fall short. We reach for our goals, only to find them just beyond our grasp. I think this is why Christianity can be so attractive to people. Actually, come to think, there is a Christian song called “Just Out of Reach” that claims this is what heaven is for. There are those who do not have even one person that loves them despite their faults; that one person for whom we are good enough. So we turn, instead, to the hope of a god that loves us unconditionally and despite our imperfections. On the days where it feels as if everyone is mad at us, it is nice to be able to turn to one person or one being who is happy with us and who we are.
For me, though, Christianity was one more area where I constantly failed to measure up. Lucky for me, I have one person for whom I am good enough. With him, I am home.
